What is Bitcoin and how do I buy some?

Should I buy Bitcoins?

We make no endorsement as to whether or not you should buy Bitcoins. Bitcoin can be an interesting addition to any investment portfolio, but comes with certain risks including the potential of losing your entire investment. We recommend you fully inform yourself on Bitcoin before making any decisions.

Why do you only have phones dating back to mid-2010?

Although Bitcoin was first introduced in October 2008, an active market for the currency only really appeared in mid 2010 making pricing assumptions prior to then difficult to ascertain.

Where is the data on the site sourced from?

Phone launch and pricing data was collected from a variety of sources including company press releases and cached online stores. In general, we have attempted to source launch data for the US market for unsubsidized and unlocked phones. Where not available, we have relied on foreign launch pricing converted to USD at the time of launch. For Bitcoin pricing, our data is provided by the pricing API. While we have attempted to provide accurate information, we provide no guarantees that the information on this website is 100% correct.

What Bitcoin price did you assume for phone purchases?

We assumed the closing Bitcoin price on the specified launch day of the phone.
